Additional Rules
Guests are renting the upstairs room which comes with its own private bathroom. It is located upstairs to the left. Riata asks that you only use that bathroom and not the one downstairs as that one is dedicated to the lower room rental. When showering please turn on exhaust fan and open the window a bit to allow steam to escape. Riata's delicious water comes from our own personal well on the ranch. Riata appreciates it if guests limit your water use and shower time.
Electricity rates in California are ridiculously high. Help us keep our prices down by turning off lights and adjusting the air conditioning/heating thermostat temperature as you would in your own home.
Get permission before you enter a pasture with livestock in it. If you open a gate, close the gate. Enter at your own risk.
The thin wire fencing around Riata's pastures is electrified. DO NOT TOUCH IT! If you do, it won't kill you, but you will certainly never forget it.
Riata Ranch rents out another room in its ranch house so common sense goes a long way around here. Riata's cowboys and cowgirls are a fun bunch but have very little patience for out of control kids and/or adults. Guest's common sense and consideration would be appreciated too. :)
No Pets, our dogs run the show around here. They are friendly and run loose on the ranch. Please drive slow and keep an eye out for them.
Smoking is allowed outside only in designated smoking areas. During the summer fire danger is real, please use your common sense.
Riata expect its guests to treat its home like their own.
Guests may use our phone to make domestic calls if you don't get cell service. AT&T and Verizon are the only cell networks here. WiFi is available and free.
Quieter time begins at approximately 11pm but we emphasize that guests keep their voices low all of the time because this is the wilderness and voices carry a long way. Relax and decompress - that's why you are here right?
We reserve the right to refuse service at any time. Only registered guests can be on property at any time unless prior permission is granted by hosts.
Finally, it seems that some past guests and guests of guests have helped themselves to a few of Riata's owners personal effects in the house. Whoever books the room is 100% responsible for the people they bring on our property so select your traveling partners wisely. Riata Ranch is home to cowboys and cowgirls and like John Wayne, it doesn't tolerate thieves, liars, or otherwise. Riata's housekeeper inventories everything after you leave and if something is missing, our resident deputy sheriff will be paying you a visit. Enjoy Riata's property but respect it as you would your own. Thank you in advance.

The Neighborhood of Three Rivers
Guests will enjoy star-filled moonlit nights here at Riata Ranch. The ranch is about 900 feet above sea level so snow is not typical. Riata Ranch is a real working horse and cattle ranch. There are only about 12 dwellings in the Redstone Valley and the closest neighbor is about quarter of a mile away. The ranch is on a dirt road that can be rather rough at times. Guests will need a vehicle. Please drive slow to keep the dust down and watch out for animals, especially our friendly dogs as they run loose on the ranch. Besides the occasional car, all guests will hear is the river, cattle, horses, and wildlife which include black bear, deer, bobcats, coyotes, and more. Guests may watch them all from the safety and comfort of our front porch or take stroll down the road.
DO NOT BE APPROACH WILDLIFE. Amazingly, tourists try to do it all of the time in the park. It's dangerous, stupid, not good for the animals, and could be very hazardous to your health. Your camera has a zoom, please use it.
The entrance to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks is about 12 minutes away and home to the largest trees in the world including the General Sherman Tree which is the largest living thing on planet earth and 850 miles of hiking trails. It's about a 3 hour round trip to the General Sherman Tree and Giant Forest. It's also home to the highest peak in the lower 48 states, Mt Whitney, and Kings Canyon which the deepest canyon in the lower 48 states.Lake Kaweah is also minutes away and offers boat rentals, fishing, and water sports. The Kaweah River is the steepest in the lower 48 states and is world renowned for it kayaking and rafting in the spring when conditions permit. See our guidebook for professional guides to book your trip. In the winter, the park requires that you have snow tire chains in your possession to enter. Guests can either buy them at their local auto parts or rent them here in town. Riata recommends buying them before you get here. See the park website for up to date info and road conditions.
